so much time has passed since my last post! so many things have happened since our annual marikita day! we've just finished 4 weeks of paeds, and we have let cute babies drool half their body water content on us, we have let bratty kids shmush their bratty bodies on us and steal our toys from our little treasure chests, and we have watched 9 month old babies attempt to eat everything around them. i mean everything. one of our cute little friends likes to begin his morning by tasting his minnie mouse cushion, then he slowly progresses to trying to eat his cot side, and then when we go and play with him, our spongebob squarepants dolls and noisemaking toys (that we have officially named "the wee-gu" because it makes the sound "weeguweegu") make a scrumptious mid-morning snack for him. one day i was teaching him the civilised art of shaking hands and he then very courteously shoved my finger into his mouth. with all the saliva these kids lose by licking random objects, i'm surprised half of them aren't completely dehydrated by now.
we have also watched enough hours of kids central to fill several childhoods, and we can now identify what show is coming on at what timeslot. sesame street is normally playing at morning ward rounds. in the afternoon before clinics start, this show with 3D talking cars will be playing. and at around 3pm, while we are semi-comatose on the sofa awaiting a tutorial, we will watch the 5 frighteningly perky people from hi-5 teach kids how to show everyone both their middle fingers!
the song that the hi-fivers teach the kids to sing is this :
"Tracy Thumb, Tracy Thumb, where are you?
Here i am! Here i am! How do you do? (children hold up both thumbs)
Peter Pointer, Peter Pointer, where are you?
Here i am! Here i am! How do you do? (children hold up both index fingers)
Thomas Tall, Thomas Tall, where are you?
Here i am! Here i am! How do you do?"
And the parents in the audience all look on proudly as their children become instant delinquents.
anyway i am pooped but very happy, because i just got back from a 6 hour long session of auditioning for OT 2 with all the good people in charge! and good lord, i never knew our juniors and our batchmates were so talented. so if you came for the auditions today and are reading this, thank you so much for showing up and performing for us. i can tell that this is going to be something good.
after that i went out with koekoe and yingci for a hilarious comforting dinner at marmalade pantry, and i was introduced to :
The Sticky Date Pudding.
liana was trying to describe this food of the gods to me because i had no idea what it was, and there were no words to describe it.
the conversation went something like this :
me : so what is it?
liana : it is.. pudding. made with dates. and it is sticky.
yingci : it's like a spongecake. a chocolate spongecake.
liana : yah. a chocolate spongecake with sticky dates.
and now even after all 3 of us ingested our own cake with blissful sticky smiles on our faces, and sat around afterwards for half an hour in a sugar coma, we still don't really know what we were eating but we still love it.
so gummy lynn foo if you are reading this, please come up with a more scrumptious way of describing the sticky date pudding because we are making it sound as appetising as old boiled pureed spinach!
